Serbian Geological
Society (SGS) is founded at the end of nineteen century. With small group of
his colleagues Jovan Žujović, organized the first meeting on February the
10th, 1891, in the building of "Velika škola" in Belgrade. Since that day,
members of the Society were actively involved in introducing modern trends and
approaches in geological sciences to keep up the pace with the well developed
countries where geology were already recognized and established discipline.
Besides Žujović, these followers were acknowledged for their contribution: Svetolik
Radovanović, Petar Pavlović, Svetolik Stevanović, Dimitrije Antula, Sava
Urošević, Jelenko Mihajlović, Vladimir Petković, Vladimir Laskarev, Kosta
Petković and Branislav Milovanović. They paved the way
for a progress, which resulted in development of geology on the Balkan
Peninsula.
